Prefer to write instead? Request a quote online →In Angelina County, heat and occasional hard freezes expand and contract concrete. Work that isn't properly mixed, reinforced, and finished cracks and deteriorates faster than it should. Lufkin's humid climate and clay subsoil create demanding conditions for concrete work — expansion joints, proper curing, and moisture barriers are not optional here if the concrete is expected to last through East Texas seasons.
Concrete fails when the mix is wrong for the application. We use the right PSI and aggregate for each job.
Rebar and wire mesh aren't optional on load-bearing surfaces. We reinforce properly so your concrete holds.
Curing and finishing matter as much as the pour. We don't rush the final steps that determine how long the surface lasts.

Lufkin sits in the heart of the Angelina National Forest region, a timber-industry town whose economy has been built for over a century on East Texas pine — Lufkin Industries, founded in 1902, grew from timber and oilfield equipment manufacturing into one of the region's largest employers. The city's housing stock includes a solid core of early-to-mid-20th-century homes near downtown, with postwar and later subdivisions spreading along the Highway 59/69 corridors. Angelina County sits deep in the Piney Woods, with heavy rainfall, humid summers, and the same iron-rich, moisture-retentive clay found throughout deep East Texas — a soil and climate combination that, paired with mature pine forest pressing close to many neighborhoods, makes tree root intrusion into driveways and foundations a more common concrete issue here than in the drier, more open parts of the state. Stephen F. Austin State University, just up the highway in Nacogdoches, means a fair amount of Lufkin's healthcare and retail economy also serves the wider university-adjacent population.
In addition to Lufkin, we regularly work in nearby areas throughout Angelina County.
Anything structural — a foundation, a load-bearing slab, or work that needs a permit — should go to a licensed contractor. Smaller flatwork like a walkway repair can sometimes be handled more informally, but a bad pour is expensive to undo, so it usually pays to get it right the first time.
Most driveways, patios, and walkways take one to three days from prep through finishing, plus curing time before the surface is ready for full use. Texas heat actually helps concrete cure faster than in cooler climates, but we still schedule around extreme heat days to avoid surface problems.
It depends on the scope — driveways and patios often do not require one, while foundations and structural additions usually do. We can tell you during the quote whether your specific project needs a permit and handle that process when it applies.
Texas has expansive clay soils in many areas that shrink and swell significantly with moisture changes, plus large temperature swings between summer heat and winter freezes. Both put stress on concrete that is not adequately reinforced or jointed. Proper base prep and reinforcement matter more here than in states without expansive soils.
At minimum: thickness, reinforcement type (rebar, wire mesh, or fiber), the PSI rating of the mix, control joint spacing, and what's included in the price versus what's an add-on (base prep, disposal of old concrete, permit fees). Two quotes for the same job can differ significantly in price for real reasons — thinner slabs, lighter reinforcement, or a base that isn't properly compacted — and getting these details in writing is the only reliable way to compare them.
