Not every concrete problem requires full replacement. Cracks, spalling, joint failure, and surface deterioration can often be repaired in place — extending the life of the concrete and preventing small problems from becoming large ones. A provider can assess what's repairable versus what needs replacement and give you an honest recommendation.

Amarillo sits on the high, flat tableland of the Llano Estacado in the Texas Panhandle, a genuinely different climate and geology from the rest of the state — elevation here runs near 3,600 feet, well above the Gulf Coast humidity and heat that defines most of Texas, and winters bring hard freezes and occasional heavy snow that simply don't happen in Houston or San Antonio. The city grew as a cattle-shipping and later helium and oil-and-gas hub along Route 66, and its housing stock spans from early-1900s brick homes near downtown to postwar ranch subdivisions spreading in every direction across the flat Panhandle terrain. Potter County's soil is a mix of caliche and expansive clay that behaves differently than the gumbo clay of East or Central Texas — it's less moisture-reactive overall, but Amarillo's dramatic freeze-thaw cycles, with temperatures that can swing 40+ degrees in a single day during spring and fall, put a distinct kind of stress on concrete that most of the rest of Texas doesn't experience at all.

Types of Concrete Repair We Do

Crack repair involves cleaning the crack, undercutting for better bond, and filling with flexible polyurethane or rigid epoxy depending on whether the crack is still moving. Spalling repair addresses surface deterioration where the concrete face is flaking or pitting. Control joint repair reseals joints that have failed and are allowing water infiltration. Surface overlays can restore the appearance of sound but visually worn concrete. There are really four separate interventions here, they cost very different amounts, and they fix different things — which is why two quotes on the same slab can look nothing alike. The failure you actually have decides which one applies:

  • Crack repair — routing and filling or sealing. Fixes water intrusion and appearance on a slab that's otherwise sound and sitting level. It does not fix settlement, and filling a crack that's still moving just hides it until it reopens.
  • Resurfacing or overlay — a new wearing surface bonded over the existing slab. Fixes a worn, spalled, or stained surface. It does not fix anything structural, and an overlay placed over a slab that's still moving with the clay underneath tends to crack right along with it.
  • Slab lifting (mudjacking or polyurethane foam) — raising a settled panel back to grade by filling the void underneath it. Fixes settlement and trip hazards quickly, for far less than replacement. It does not fix cracking, and it does not fix whatever created the void in the first place.
  • Full removal and replacement — the honest answer when the slab is broken up rather than merely settled, when reinforcement is corroding, or when the base itself has failed and needs to be rebuilt.

When Repair Isn't the Right Answer

Repair works well when the underlying base is sound and the damage is limited. If the base has failed, if the concrete is heaving from tree roots or soil movement, or if cracks are widespread and still actively moving, repair is a short-term solution.
